![]() Zoon van Samuel Lydiate en Marguan "Mary Ann" Gandy. Geboren 4 feb 1864 Runcorn, Cheshire, England, Great Britain Parrs Square. 1).
Geboorteaangifte 22 feb 1864 1). Overleden 14 apr 1944 Manchester, Lancaster, England, Great Britain, leeftijd 80 jaar, doodsoorzaak: Myocardial Degereration, Senility. 2). Overlijdensaangifte 17 apr 1944 2). © Copyright: Name Orgin Research www.surnamedb.com 1980 – 2007 Surname: Lydiate This interesting and attractive surname is of Anglo-Saxon origin, and is either a topographical name from residence by a swing-gate, specifically one in a fence between ploughed land and meadow, deriving from the Olde English pre 7th Century "hlid-geat", swing-gate, or a locational name from any of the various places named with this word. These places include: Lidgate in Suffolk; Lidgate in Yorkshire and Derbyshire; Lidgett near Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, Lugat in the lordship of Stow, Midlothian and Lydiate in Lancashire (15 km from Liverpool). As many of the descendants of the Lydaite family come from Lancashire, it is obvious that the family is named after this place.. Topographical surnames were among the earliest created, sinceboth natural and man-made features in the landscape provided easily recognizable distinguishing names in the small communities of the Middle Ages, and locational names were originally given as a means of identification to those who left their birthplace to settle elsewhere. Early examples of the surname include: Philip atte Lidgate (Yorkshire, 1274); Richard de la Lydeyate (Staffordshire, 1280), and John atte Lygate (Sussex, 1332). In the modern idiom the surname has a number of variant spellings, ranging from Lidgate, Liddiatt, Lidgett, Lyddiatt, and Lydiate to Liggat, Liggatt and Liggett. On February 3rd 1697, Elizabeth Liggett and Jonathan Bushell were married at St. James', Duke's Place, London. The first recorded spelling of thefamily name is shown to be that of Ralph de Lidgate, which was dated 1230, in the "Pipe Rolls of Sussex", during the reign of King Henry 111, known as "The Frenchman", 1216 - 1272. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling. © Copyright: Name Orgin Research www.surnamedb.com 1980 - 2007

Gedoopt 29 mrt 1863 Runcorn, Cheshire, England, Great Britain. Overleden 3 nov 1945 Salford, Lancashire, England, Great Britain Died at 10 Hyde Grove, Sale, Chester. Present is Clara Carnforth-Lydiate., leeftijd ongeveer 82 jaar, doodsoorzaak: Myocarditis, Senility. 5) Also Claire (Anne) Gandy mentioned. Ook Claire (Anne) Gandy genoemd. Elsewhere the family name Duckworth is mentioned. Quite certain this is mistaken. Elders wordt de familienaam Duckworth genoemd. Waarschijnlijk is dat fout. Surname: Duckworth This unusual surname is of Anglo-Saxon origin, and is locational from a place in Lancashire called Duckworth Fold. The first element is the Olde English pre 7th Century personal name "Ducca", of uncertain origin, and "worth", a homestead; hence, "Ducca's homestead". Locational surnames, such as this, were usually acquired by a local landowner, or by the lord of the manor, and especially by those former inhabitants of a place who had moved to another area, and were thereafter best identified by the name of their birthplace. The following excerpt from Baines "History of Lanacashire" reads, "in the reign of Edward 111 (1327 - 1372), Richard de Radcliffe held two carucates of land in Oswaldtwisle and Duckworth at that time called Dokeward". The surname is first recorded in the latter half of the 14th Century (see below). Recordings from Lancashire Church Registers include the christening of Ann Duckworth, an infant, in 1561, at Great Harwood. An interesting namebearer, recorded in the "Dictionary of National Biography", was Sir John Thomas Duckworth (1748 - 1817), who was Rear Admiral of the White (1799), and Governor and Commander in Chief of Newfoundland, 1810 - 1813, Admiral 1810; he was created baronet in 1813. The firstrecorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Henricus de (of) Dukeworth, which was dated 1379, in the "Poll Tax Returns Records of Yorkshire", during the reign of King Richard 11, known as "Richard of Bordeaux", 1377 - 1399.
